Nintendo says that it has sold 600,000 Wiii consoles in the first day of its American release. The Japanese games giant says that this makes its Wii a 190 million dollar business straight out of the gate.
The biggest selling game is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, with sales topping 454,000 copies.
The Wii launches in Europe December 8. Launch events will include a celebrity games session at HMV’s flagship Oxford Street store, In London. Limited edition Wii products will be available to early bird shoppers.
Ninty, obviously buoyed by interest in its new console, also says that sales of the DS have boomed. It says the handheld is outselling Sony’s rival PSP more than 2.5 to 1. To date, more than 2 million DS units have been sold in the UK.
