Sony Computer Entertainment’s UKĀ managing director Ray Maguire has backtracked on his comments about a smaller, lighter PSP. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, he now says that comments made about a second iteration of the handheld were a reference to ongoing “research and development” rather than a specific product proposal: “Today, there is no next iteration of the PSP.”
Maguire also dismisses comparisons with the market-leading Nintendo DS and hints that the PSP will be targeted at PlayStation 3 owners over the coming months. “It’s like comparing apples and oranges; the marketplace that we need to get into is the PS3 connectivity market.”
