Hitachi will take its curiously-named Wooo sub-brand outside of Japan for the first time in 2008. The company will use the monicker for flagship products, beginning with its Ultra Thin (UT) line of LCD TVs, due for European launch in March. Technical Sales manager for Europe Peter Johnson admitted the success of Nintendo’s Wii has paved the way for Wooo. “I think consumers are ready to accept the name.”
To be used in both Europe and North America, the branding will also be applied to Blu-ray players and the company’s innovative Blu-ray camcorder.
