SXRD rear projection TVs are dead. Sony has confirmed that there will be no more products released in its SXRD rear projection range. Once current supplies are exhausted the category will be dumped. SXRD TVs, which have only enjoyed half-hearted promotion in the UK, offered large screen sizes at relatively low price points but their value has diminished as retail prices for flatpanels collapsed and large screen LCD TV production ramped up. “We are moving our resources more toward LCD TV, because that’s what people really want,” said a Sony spokesman. Sony says it will continue to use SXRD technology in its video front projection range.
