Joint venture LCD panel-making company LG.Philips will be changing its name to… LG Display. The name change, which is pending the approval of its shareholders who meet at the end of the month, is significant as it acknowledges a growing interest in OLED development.
In a statement the company explains that the plan “reflects our determination to play a leading role in the next-generation display industry, including active-matrix OLED (AMOLED) screens and flexible displays, as well as LCDs.”
The different monicker also probably reflects the fact that Philips recently reduced its stake in the company.
